Giacomo Bertagnolli

Giacomo Bertagnolli was born in Cavalese on January 18, 1999, and is an internationally renowned Paralympic alpine skier from Trentino, Italy. He belongs to the ‘Visually Impaired – B3’ category due to a congenital visual impairment caused by bilateral optic nerve atrophy. He has specialized in all alpine skiing disciplines, including GS, SL, SG, DH, and SC.

The beginning of his competitive career dates back to 2012/2013, but it was in 2014/2015 that he gained recognition to join the Italian Paralympic alpine skiing team. In 2015, he made his World Cup debut in the GS discipline, securing his first podium.

Determined and courageous, he has always faced his visual impairment as a challenge and an opportunity to become a successful athlete and represent Italy at the international level.

His sporting career boasts exceptional results, with 72 medals won in the World Cup, including 7 specialty titles and 3 overall World Cup victories. He has also earned 15 medals at the World Championships and 8 Paralympic medals. For his outstanding performances, he has been awarded 4 Gold Collars of sports merit and in 2022 was honored with the title of Commander of the Republic by the Italian President.

Moreover, Giacomo Bertagnolli had the honor of being the Italian flag bearer at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 and 2022 Paralympics, making his sporting journey even more special.
